Ben Riggs, the winemaker behind another of our top Aussie reds, Zonte’s Footstep, has crafted The Black Chook using grapes from two of Australia’s finest Shiraz growing regions. Padthaway, three hours’ drive south of Adelaide, was established as a viticultural area in the 1960s, its maritime climate proving ideal for elegant, complex red wines. And McLaren Vale of course is even better known for its ripe, succulent Shiraz.
Its winemaking history dates back to 1838. With meticulous care, Ben combined hand picked parcels to create a magnificent red of impressive power and finesse with a soft, silky texture. Ready to tuck into straight away, The Black Chook 2014 excels with roast duck, herby sausages or even roasted vegetable lasagne.
