After taking over the cellars of the Sherry shipper Jose Bustamante, located next door to the main facilities of Fernando de Castilla, Jan quickly established Fernando de Castilla as masters of the production and ageing of fine, unblended, untreated Sherries.

The bodega’s reputation is based on the excellence of the Antique range of intensely pure and complex single solera Sherries whose award winning packaging makes them even more impressive. The Antique Palo Cortado was awarded trophies for Best of Show and Best Dry Sherry at the 2009 New Wave Spanish Wine Awards, whilst the Antique Amontillado scooped the trophy for Dry Sherry over 10 and the 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards.

Blandys Duke of Clarence Malmsey Rich Madeira Port

Blandys

Duke of Clarence Malmsey Rich Madeira Port

Blandys Duke of Clarence Malmsey, Rich Madeira PortBlandys Duke of Clarence is wine from the Island of Madeira, Portugal. Madeira is made on the sub-tropical island of the same name situated in the Atlantic Ocean, some 400 miles off North Africa.

Blandy’s, established in 1811, is the leading producer of premium quality Madeira and still owned and managed by direct descendants of the founder, John Blandy.

This is the richest style of Madeira, full bodied, rich and soft textured. It is a splendid after-dinner drink. Family owned for seven generations

Vinification: The grapes undergo fermentation on their skins with natural yeast in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After approx. 48 hours, fortification with grape brandy takes place, arresting fermentation. The Madeira is transferred to ‘estufa’ tanks where it is cyclically heated and cooled over a period of 3 months. Ageing takes place in American oak casks for 3 years before the wine is racked and fined prior to being assembled and bottled.

History: John Blandy established Blandy’s Madeira in 1811. Today, the Blandy family continue to own and operate the Madeira Wine Company, preserving a tradition that has lasted over 200 years and seven generations.

Regional information: As an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyards of Madeira are exposed to the ocean breeze. The north side of the island is cooler & more humid, whilst the south side, protected by the steep mountains, is warm & sunny. The vast majority of the vineyards are small in size and can be found from sea level up to an altitude of 800m, perched on small terraces known as “poios”.

Storage Instructions: Cool Dry Place

Taylors Port 10 Year Old Port in Gift Box

Taylors

Port 10 Year Old Port in Gift Box 75cl

Taylors Port 10 Year Old Port in Gift Box 75clThis style of Port is fully matured in seasoned oak casks each holding about 630 litres of wine. Here, over many years of ageing, the wine gradually takes on its characteristic amber ‘tawny’ colour, slowly developing the complex mellow flavours and the smooth luscious palate which are the hallmarks of Tawny Port. Taylor’s blends its magnificent 10 year old tawny from its extensive reserves of old cask aged Ports matured in the firm’s cool and tranquil cellars (known as ‘lodges’) in Oporto on Portugal’s Atlantic coast.

Taylor’s 10 Year Old Tawny is a superb example of the aged tawny style. Mellow and elegant, combining delicate wood notes with rich aromas of mature fruit, it is bottled for immediate drinking.

A glass of chilled 10 Year Old makes a delicious aperitif, but is equally good matched to a hard, nutty cheese or a pudding such as apple pie, tarte tatin, baked figs, orange tart, caramel tart, or cooked strawberries with pepper.

Taylor’s 10 Year Old Tawny is delicious served lightly chilled at the end of the meal.
