Pieropan Soave Classico

Pieropan Soave Classico

2015 75c

Pieropan Soave Classico White WineJoe Fattorini’s Tasting Note: “One of the great summer wines, this is everything Soave should be. Lightly aromatic, fresh and youthful. Its gentle citrus and almond blossom aromas complement rather than compete so make for a wonderful food matching wine. Baked fish with a squeeze of lemon, summer salads, grilled vegetables and seafood. All delicious.”

Their liveliest and most youthful style from Soave Classico, the Pieropan family has been producing this wine since the early 1900’s.

Generous, pleasingly fresh and versatile, it is made from the traditional varieties of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grown in family- owned vineyards situated in the Soave Classico zone.

Brilliant straw yellow colour with greenish hints.

The delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossoms and marzipan.

Good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length.

Awards: James Suckling – 92/100, Wine Spectator – 88/100, Decanter Magazine – 93/100.

Food Pairing Suggestions: It makes an excellent partner for soups, starters, especially vegetable based such as asparagus, peas, courgette, egg-based dishes or seafood and fresh water fish dishes. It is an excellent aperitif, especially when served with simple canapés. Serve at 12°C.

Boschendal – A winemaking heritage going back to the 17th Century

Few places in the world can claim to have all a wine lover could desire. Boschendal Winery is one such unique destination. Only an hour’s drive from Cape Town, this magnificent winery is situated in the picturesque Groot Drakenstein Valley, at the gateway to Franschhoek. A veritable feast for the senses, Boschendal lays claim to a proud winemaking tradition stretching back to the late 17th century. From award winning wines, to fine dining and exquisite grounds, this world class estate seamlessly blends its rich past with a tireless commitment to constant innovation.

Our History

  • Boschendal, literally “Bossendaal” (wood and dale) farm, is one of the oldest wine producers in the New World
  • The French Huguenot, Jean Le Long was granted the land in 1685, after escaping France’s religious persecution.
  • In 1715 the property was purchased by fellow Huguenots, the De Villiers brothers.
  • The elegant Manor House, an outstanding example of Cape Dutch architecture, was built in 1812.
  • After remaining in the De Villiers family for 164 years, the farm was sold to a Dutch farmer, D J Retief. After the disastrous phylloxera plague of 1896 destroyed the vineyards in the area, Prime Minister of the Cape Colony and South African visionary, Cecil John Rhodes, purchased the property in partnership with De Beers and set about restoring it to its former glory.

Our Vineyards

Boschendal is ideally situated for the cultivation of quality grapes. Comprised of around 2250 hectares, stretching for six kilometres along the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein Mountain to the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain, the size and position of our vineyards allows a variety of cultivars to flourish Our vineyards are situated on different soils and at various altitudes, from the valley floor to 350 metres above sea level, allowing for a variety of styles. Particular care is taken to earmark individual blocks for specific styles. The cool growing conditions produce elegant wines, relatively low in sugar, yet bursting with ripe fruit flavours.

We are committed to ensuring that a sustainable environmental and agricultural equilibrium is maintained. Boschendal is home to pristine tracts of indigenous fynbos, part of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Through sound agricultural practices in the vineyard and a minimalist approach in the cellar, Boschendal has taken active steps to protect its unique natural diversity. Our goal is to ensure that human wellbeing, environmental health and economic viability can co-exist in harmony.

La Folie de Pierre is the creation of Pierre Sauvion, a fourth generation Loire winemaker. His uncle owned the celebrated Château du Cléray in Muscadet where Pierre remains head winemaker. Having studied oenology at university in Bordeaux and worked in Australia and California, Pierre is the epitome of the modern, forward thinking French winemaker whose approach shines through in the contemporary style of his wines.

Pierre sources grapes from two areas – Touraine, next door to Sancerre in the Central Vineyards, and Haut Poitou, a little further to the south – to strike the balance of complexity, freshness and ripe fruit. We think he’s hit it spot on. Enjoy with hot smoked salmon, white fish or warm butternut squash and goat’s cheese salad.

Fabulously aromatic nose, concentrated gooseberry fruit flavours, all carefully balanced by a rich smokiness and steely dry palate. A mineral, elegant and long finish.

The classic match to white goats cheese, this wine is also a brilliant partner to smoked salmon and poached trout.

Ca’ Vescovo is one of the finest northern Italian Pinot Grigios you’ll ever taste. It’s made entirely from premium estate grown grapes in Friuli, Italy’s top white wine region. To guarantee quality, the Zonin family keep every aspect of production in house.

The winemaker is Marco Rabino, who you may recall is the talent behind our hugely popular Ca’ Bolani Prosecco. Amazingly, wine has been made at this exceptional estate for 1500 years.

The first vineyard was planted by Roman settlers in AD 572. They took the wines back to Rome and made the area around the town of Aquileia in Friuli famous for quality white wine. We suggest you serve this wine gently chilled, with white fish, chicken, salads or fresh pasta in a creamy sauce.

Brought up in beautiful Mâconnais, Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier are childhood friends and now brothers in law, too. In 1986 they bought an estate there and impressed the world’s critics and consumers with their superb wines. In 1997 they did the same in the Haute Vallée de l’Aude, in the Pyrenees and one of the Languedoc’s best regions.

Here the terroir makes for a fresh Chardonnay, while the Burgundian expertise of the fourth generation winemakers ensures elegance and finesse. The elevation of the vineyard (530 metres) is key. The grapes are bathed in sunshine by day, yet chilly nights help to preserve Chardonnay’s fresh, stone fruit character.

This fine citrus peach white is ideal for dinner with salmon en croûte or chicken.

Kim Crawford Marlborough

Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Wine 75 cl (Case of 3)

Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014 WineKim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine is beautifully bright, pale lemon in the glass. Pink grapefruit, passion fruit, frangipani, and pineapple aromas wow the senses. Full of flavour, balanced by mouth-watering acidity and a fresh, zesty finish.

The grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley and the neighbouring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly sub soils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age from 18 months to 15 years bringing a mix of youthful vigour and depth of flavour.

Summer 2013 was delightful, with heat summation marginally above the long term average and lots of beautiful sunny days. Notably however, the mean daily temperatures during mid-summer were below the long-term average, providing an idyllic sunny and dry growing environment, without excessive heat. Marlborough was fortunate to receive intermittent rainfall throughout the growing season, which warded off the severe drought conditions experienced by much of the country.

The grapes were machine harvested in the cool of the evening and overnight to preserve flavour and pressed immediately with minimal skin contact. Each block was kept separate throughout the various stages of the winemaking process. Fermentations were carried out at low temperatures and when all tanks had completed fermentation they were proportionately blended, fined, stabilised and bottled. Constantin Chase Blanc 2012

Constantin Chase Blanc 2012

Constantin Chase Blanc 2012A blend of 60% Vermentino, 30% Viognier and 10% Ugni Blanc, this is a fresh vibrant white wine from Chateau Constantin Chase, which can be enjoyed during the summer months or accompanied with food all year round.  The wine is aged on the lees for 12 months in 25% new French oak barrels, 25% old French oak barrels and 50% stainless steel before the ‘Assemblage’ or blending takes place. The blend is then bottled soon after so as to maintain the freshness of the wine. Chateau Constantin – Chase is located just minutes outside the quaint picturesque village of Lourmarin, which featured in Peter Mayle’s telling’s of ‘A Year In Provence’. Set in the most southern part of France’s famous Rhone Valley, the Luberon region enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate.

Uniquely situated between the robust red producing Rhone Valley and the sun soaked Rose producing Provence, the Luberon thrives in it’s special ability to produce both rich terroir driven reds, sharp and fruity rose’s, but also crisp, elegant and often delicate southern French whites. Almost 20Ha of vines considered in French as ‘Vielle Vignes’ – or old vines. Planted during the 1960’s and onwards the domaine has been producing from unique terroirs ranging from the gravel based river plains to mineral driven mountain cuttings. These soils, matched with the natural wild ‘Herbes des Provence’ such as thyme, rosemary and mint, growing in around the vines create the platform for the terroir driven wines. Grape Varieties include Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermintino, Viognier, Chardonnay

Nose: Range of citrus bursts along with honey, white flowers and peach. Palette: Balanced, bringing together the fresh citrus driven acidity and the fullness of white peach in the mid palette. There is harmony of these flavours all liked together with the natural minerality derived from the Luberon terroir, which makes it excellent for drinking now or keeping for 3-4 years

Country of origin: Luberon, France

Serving Recommendation: Served chilled, wonderful for summer drinking. Pair with any food but works particularly well with fish, creamy pasta dishes and salads

Mudhouse Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Case of 3

Mudhouse Sauvignon Blanc 2014 White Wine 75clMud House Sauvignon Blanc has Refreshing aromas of nettles, melon and grapefruit. The palate delivers supple citrus, guava and bright elegant acidity giving a long refreshing finish. A wine of remarkable intensity and style. A crisp and vibrant palate with concentrated fruit flavours. The classic green bean and tropical fruits on the front palate meld perfectly with the zesty grapefruit acidity giving the wine a juicy refreshing finish. We couldn’t have written a better season, with an abundance of the warm, dry days and cool nights Marlborough is famous for. The perfect summer set us up for a harvest that was full-on from the word go, and resulted in wines showing an amazing range of vibrant flavours with surprisingly crisp acidity.

Just over half of the fruit for this wine is sourced from our Woolshed vineyard in ihe upper Wairau Valley. The remainder of fruit is sourced from carefully selected grower parcels in the Wairau, Ure and Awatere Valleys. The most important thing in making vibrant Sauvignon Blanc is treating the grapes, juice and wine with respect protecting the volatile flavours from oxidation and corruption. This is done each step of the way starting from harvesting in the wee hours to ensure the grapes are cold and happy when they reach the winery. Each vineyard batch is kept separate and gently pressed and cold settled. The juice is then racked and inoculated with selected yeast. A cool, closely monitored fermentation follows and once the wine has reached perfect balance the wine is chilled and racked off yeast lees. The wines are then allowed to relax in tank before blending, fining and filtering.

Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2013

Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2013

Case of 3

Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2013 White Wine 75clVasse Felix Filius Chardonnay Wine is typified by its bright, elegant fruit, subtle wild complexities and a tight acid structure, reflecting the vibrance and purity of this variety in Margaret River.

Brilliant pale lemon yellow, with a green tinge appearance. Nose: The fruit and savory elements from natural, in-barrel fermentation entwine together in a spell of intricate fragrances with light notes of pineapple skin, green apples, tinned apricots, fresh lime and lemon glaze, weaved with granita biscuit, lightly toasted almond and a hint of clove oak spice. Palate: Succulent and juicy, it lands with a soft overall palate sensation. It is fresh and vibrant with delicate fruit flavours of fresh pineapple and green apple and a hint of lemon cheesecake. The fine, juicy palate has a dry, lemon biscuit and citrus pith finish.

The fruit was picked based upon freshness and acidity to preserve its vibrant, primary fruit flavours and structure. All parcels were treated in respect of the unique qualities coming from vineyard sites through natural fermentation with varying solids levels, the astute selection of French oak and battonage programs tailored to the individual barrique. Following 9 months of maturation in oak the parcels most characteristic of the vintage were combined to create a unique varietal Chardonnay from Margaret River.

Good finishing winter rains with moderate spring conditions resulted in excellent canopy health. The summer ripening period was dry and warm with some above average heat in late January prompting an early start to harvest. The weather tempered in early February and the fruit ripening slowed to a more typical pattern resulting in a long and steady vintage. Continuous fine weather remained through to mid-April when harvest completed for reds. It comes with the vintage information as follows: TA: 6.6 g per litre; PH: 3.20; Residual sugar: 3.20.

Vasse Felix was established in 1967 by pioneer Dr Thomas Cullity and is the founding wine estate of Margaret River.
